Training programme cum Animal Health Camp organized at Mawphrew village, Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya under Tribal Sub plan (TSP).

Three days Training programme cum Animal Health camp on ‘Livelihood Improvement through Backyard Poultry Farming and its Disease Management’ was organized at Mawphrew village, Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya on 6th, 7th and 8th February’2019 by Division of Animal Health, ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Umiam, Meghalaya under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP). A total of 50 nos. of poultry farmers (male:17, female:33) participated in the programme. The main aim of the programme was to improve the livelihood of the poultry farmers through scientific interventions. In this occasion a training manual entitled ‘Backyard Poultry Farming and its Health Management’ and extension folders entitled ‘Deworming and Vaccination in Livestock and Poultry’ and ‘Poultry Coccidiosis’ in both English and Khasi language were also distributed among the farmers. They were made aware of improved breeds of backyard poultry as well as importance of deworming and vaccination in livestock and poultry to prevent them from various parasitic, bacterial and viral diseases. Inputs in the form of veterinary medicines such as anthelmintics, vitamins and mineral supplements, antidiarrhoeal, antibiotics, acaricides, topical cream etc were distributed among the farmers. Pigs (49nos.), poultry (893nos.), goats (36nos.) and cattle (21nos.) were treated under this programme. Door to door vaccination in poultry against Ranikhet disease was also done. Improved breeds of backyard poultry chicks (1000nos.) will be distributed among all the trainees. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Meena Das (Senior Scientist), Dr. R. Laha (Principal Scientist), Dr. Bimal Bey (Young Professional), Ms Astha Barman (Senior Research Fellow), Ibanylla Swer (Field Assistant) and L. Khongrymmai (Field Assistant).
